A coach said this to me not long ago but it didn’t land. “Yep, slow down. Got it.” As I kept pushing harder. Resisting everything. Not focused.
This phrase comes from US Special Operations Forces and can be applied to many situations. I have heard it used in the CrossFit and weightlifting worlds. It applies to decision making, business, even parenting.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast highlights the importance of planning, accuracy, precision, and consistency. Rushing into situations without these can be ineffective at best and detrimental at worst.
Slowing down brings clarity. Accurate thought. The most successful people I know are not running around distracted and crazed . They are calm, methodical, intentional. They are following a process. They are strategic.
When we slow down and focus on consistency and accuracy, we give our brains, nervous systems and bodies time to integrate. We begin to understand the techniques, concepts, behaviors at a cellular level.
THIS produces amazing results, friends.
I see people (myself included at times) frustrated that they aren’t getting immediate results. And I get it, we live in a world that tells us we should have what we want yesterday. Instant gratification.
This. Doesn’t. Work.
If you do happen to achieve FAST results, they often aren’t sustainable. As a society, we are so focused on outcomes. The AFTER. We don’t see the effort, the sacrifices, the struggles.
That said, results and outcomes ARE important. We want to - need to - achieve our goals.
While counterintuitive, we have a much greater chance of success when we slow down.
Plan. Practice. Put in the reps (whatever those may be) with proper form (whatever that may look like for your goal). Aligned at every level.
And then…things start to work. Click. Fall into place.
And dare I say…you get to go faster.
And…this is exactly what you get in my three month health coaching program. :)
A customized, proven process that teaches you what it takes to be truly healthy and nourished. For you. At this moment in your life. You get the time and space to practice. You get consistent accountability. You learn how to get results.
It is rare for anyone to get focused time to work on improving their health with a trained professional but that is exactly what you get in my program.
Being truly healthy is the most important goal you could ever set. This is what allows, or prohibits you from, living the life you want to live. The life you know is possible.
